FoodShare Communications Intern

FoodShare Toronto is seeking a Communications Intern to join our dynamic and passionate team.

Reporting to the Communications Coordinator, this position will support the development and production of print and digital communications materials for our diverse stakeholders including customers, program participants, community members, partners, donors, policy makers, educators, the general public and more. More specifically, the Communications Intern could take responsibility for FoodShare’s biweekly Good Food Newsletter by researching information on fresh produce, collecting recipes, coordinating production, and will also assist with website updates, and other communications tasks as needed.

Job Components

  • Biweekly production of the Good Food News and development of article and recipe bank
    • Research and write ‘feature’ article about the weekly vegetable or fruit
    • Develop an extensive bank of recipes that support our vision Good Healthy Food for All!
    • Develop a bank of feature content that can be pulled from as needed
    • Photograph and collect images that correspond with the feature content
    • Update templates and further develop design of publication
    • Maintain design standards, and enforce consistency in style of publication
  • Liaise with Communications Coordinator and Program staff to support writing of longer articles
  • Assist in updating FoodShare website postings, events, and news listings
  • Assist in updating communications materials and the creation of templates for program flyers, brochures, and presentations
  • Assist in the updating and maintenance of bulletin boards and display areas
  • Other duties assigned as required

Qualifications:

  • Experience and/or education in communications/marketing and design, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Strong professional writing skills; ability to write for varied uses.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience and interest in website management and social media
  • Team player
  • Commitment to social justice and community development issues
  • Creative, experience with Adobe Creative Suite considered a strong asset
  • Proven ability to self-manage, take initiative and ownership of processes
  • Demonstrated interest in food security and social justice issues and understanding of community development.

Hours of work:
Works hours are flexible; we hope the intern could volunteer 1-2 days/week (7.5 -15 hours) for a minimum of three months, for maximum learning and impact.
