Statement by the Prime Minister of Canada on Global Entrepreneurship Week
Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement on Global Entrepreneurship Week, taking place from November 12-18:
“Entrepreneurs are among the most hard working and innovative members of society and help contribute to a more prosperous Canadian economy.
“Global Entrepreneurship Week Canada 2012 – hosted by the Canadian Youth Business Foundation – celebrates the dedication of these trail blazers and encourages youth to develop their entrepreneurial skills and achieve their full potential.
“Our Government is a proud supporter of young entrepreneurs. In 2011, we invested $20 million over two years in the Canadian Youth Business Foundation which will help support over 1,000 new businesses and enable them to continue their commitment to our country’s entrepreneurs.
“We are also committed to putting in place a modern digital infrastructure and to opening new markets for Canadian businesses. Since 2006, our Government has concluded new trade agreements with nine countries and has launched free trade negotiations with over 60 others.
“I encourage all Canadians to participate in activities for Global Entrepreneurship Week being held in communities across the country and to continue to support and recognize those intrepid individuals who are creating Canadian jobs and shaping the world of tomorrow.”
